This Division was started during the session 1983-84. The ECE curriculum provides a wide perspective of the field of electronics and allows the student to gain wide knowledge of electronics. It provides the perfect ground and flexibility for students who wish to go into other streams.
From the very beginning, the ECE division has taken the lead in establishing well- equipped and modern Lab facilities as well as initiating Ph.D programs and Research and Development in the Institute. Ever since its inception, the ECE division has followed a curriculum that provides many advantages to the student. The curriculum for the first year of the course is same for all the branches. The diversity of the curriculum becomes evident after the first year. The course consists of sufficient papers on all major fields of engineering – Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Control engineering. The final two years however, are devoted, almost entirely, to advanced topics in Electronics and Communication Engg., such as Digital Signal Processing, Microwave engineering and MOS Analog IC design.

Signal Processing – Signal processing is an area that deals with operations on or analysis of signals, in either discrete or continuous time, to perform useful operations on those signals. Signals of interest can include sound, images, time-varying measurement values and sensor data, for example biological data such as electrocardiograms, control system signals, telecommunication transmission signals etc.
Integrated Circuits – An integrated circuit is an electronic circuit manufactured by the patterned diffusion of trace elements into the surface of a thin substrate of semiconductor material. Computers, cell phones, and other digital appliances are now inextricable parts of the structure of modern societies, made possible by production of integrated circuits.
Microprocessors -A microprocessor incorporates the functions of a computer’s central processing unit (CPU) on a single integrated circuit, or at most a few integrated circuits. It is a multipurpose, programmable device that accepts digital data as input, processes it according to instructions stored in its memory, and provides results as output.
Microwave Engineering -Microwave engineering pertains to the study and design of microwave circuits, components, and systems. The short wavelengths involved distinguish this discipline from Electronic engineering. This is because there are different interactions with circuits, transmissions and propagation characteristics at microwave frequencies.
VLSI Design -Very-large-scale integration (VLSI) is the process of creating integrated circuits by combining thousands of transistors into a single chip. VLSI began when complex semiconductor and communication technologies were being developed.
